Who’s who in IL’s presidential delegate race: 1st CD
The topic of presidential delegates was discussed previously on Illinois Review, but with Fred Thompson dropping out this week, there was discussion again.
Thompson delegates have reportedly conferred and most are going to remain "uncommitted" and will run on their own area name recognition and merit. If Thompson endorses another candidate, his delegates are not required to follow his recommendation. They’ll be allowed to make their own choice at the Republican Convention scheduled in August in Minneapolis.
This week’s development brought up discussion about just who is running and who’s running for which GOP presidential candidates.

Let’s take a look at the 1st Congressional District’s list of presidential delegates. The 1st District, represented in the U.S. Congress by Bobby Rush, is eligible to elect two delegates to the Republican Convention.

Notable persons on the list are McCain’s Jack Murphy, married to former GOP Cook County Chairman Maureen Murphy; Romney’s Steven Daglas, deputy GOP State Central committeeman for the 1st CD and active in Palos Township GOP; and Thompson’s Maureen Murphy, who not only was former head of the Cook County GOP; she’s currently the Worth Township GOP chair, 1st CD State Central Committeeman; former state rep and former Cook County Board of Review commissioner.
