The language of the liberal Democrat
by George Dienhart
There are certain phrases that liberals have used to gain credibility with other liberals. The Democratic Party has a long history of twisting and distorting facts to support their agenda. Today. there is a hot, new rallying cry for liberals- 100 years. Quoted out of context, repeated ad nauseum and not even the slightest bit relevant, it is the perfect rallying cry for the Democratic Party. Let us remember previous public affairs efforts launched by the Democrats in a similar vein:
“Halliburton”- I got so sick of hearing this from liberals I used to work with, that I started yelling “Halliburton!” every time someone made any somewhat ridiculous claim or comment. I am not sure they got the connection I was trying to make, but at least they stopped complaining about Halliburton. Here is what we need to know about Halliburton:
- After Saddam set fire to 320 burning wells, Halliburton put out the fires. They saved a precious natural resource, and prevented massive damage to the environment.
- Liberals squeal with delight every time a Halliburton profit is mentioned in relation to the Iraq Theater of operations. In actuality, these business units are the least profitable in the company. The company’s contracts in Iraq are expected to have generated more than $13 billion in revenue. The problem is Halliburton has spent almost 13 billion dollars on these projects. According to some reports, the profit is less than 2%, on average. The war was clearly not a profit center for the company.
- Dick Cheney. This is clearly ridiculous. We are supposed to believe that it is somehow wrong that the Vice-President was once one of 50 thousand Halliburton employees. That is a bit smaller than Motorola. I am not saying Ed Zander should be vice-president- but no one would complain about his former job at Motorola if he were.
“Bush Lied, People died”- Another slogan, this time on everything from t-shirts to lips of the most obtuse liberal.
- There is a difference between a lie and being misinformed. Kennedy conspiracists believe that there was a second shooter. There was an explosion of “awareness” based on the film “JFK”. People use “facts” from this movie to back up their argument. That does not make them liars. Once confronted with the actual facts, most people realized that Oliver Stone is an ass and went on with their life. The President did not lie- he had bad intelligence. So did most other nations.
- Many people state that the CIA would not make mistakes like this. Well, the CIA has a rich and colorful history of such mistakes. Aldrich Ames. Edward Lee Howard. William Kampiles. The CIA somehow missed that the Soviet Union was in a state of collapse. In its early days, the CIA assured President Truman that there was no way that China would send troops into Korea. Bad intel is part of any intel agency’s legacy.
- In 5 years, we have lost 4000 brave men and women in Iraq. At the battle of Normandy, there were over 425,000 Allied and German casualties. In one World War 2 battle, spread over parts of 2 months, casualties were 100 times higher than U.S. casualties in the complete Iraqi operation were. Saddam was responsible for the deaths of over 1 million people. Those 4000 men and woman sacrificed all for a good and noble cause. Fortunately, those called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice have done so at a far lower rate than in previous wars.
“16 Words”- Not yet able to convince the American public that the president lied, the left looked for its smoking gun. They believed they had found it in a 16-word sentence in the 2003 State of the Union address. “The British Government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.”
- Notice the words “British Government”. The left actually blamed President Bush for another nation’s intelligence failure.
- After an independent investigation, that same nation still stands by their claim. A British intelligence review released July 14 calls Bush’s 16 words “well founded.”
- A separate report by the US Senate Intelligence Committee stated that the CIA had intel from “a number of intelligence reports.” This information was still classified at the time of the controversy. The liberal media mostly ignored this story when it broke.
“It’s the economy, stupid”
- Did anyone notice the recession was over by March 1991? Bill Clinton was elected over 20 months later. The economy was growing for over a year before this slogan became popular. A more correct statement would have been “It’s an ad campaign, stupid.”
- The largest economic expansion in the History of the United States started under George H. Bush. He was Vice-President for the second largest expansion. Has the left given him any credit?
- The booming economy that Clinton inherited expanded in large part due to measures he repeatedly threatened to veto.
The last one shows us how dangerous these word games can be. The economy mantra was uttered repeatedly during the ’92 election cycle. It is still remembered as turning point in that election. This statement summed up not only what the Clintonistas thought of the president, but it also demonstrated that they were willing to lie and distort facts to be elected. Clinton DNA now runs deep in the Democratic Party. Congressional representatives, governors and many other powerful people worked in this environment, and are now working for both Democratic candidates. It was of this mindset that the 100 years campaign against John McCain was born.
Clinton staffer Howard Wolfson, mentioned four times in two minutes that John McCain “wants to be in Iraq for 100 years.” Sen. Obama offered up “Instead of offering an exit strategy for Iraq, he’s offering us a 100 year occupation,”
The only problem with these statements is their inherent lack of truth. Just as in 1992, Democratic Presidential candidates are making up the facts. John McCain was asked about a statement from President Bush stating that we might need to be in Iraq for 50 years. McCain’s answer was “Make it 100. We’ve been in South Korea . . . we’ve been in Japan for 60 years, We’ve been in South Korea for 50 years or so. That would be fine with me. As long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed, that’s fine with me. I hope that would be fine with you, if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where al-Qaeda is training, recruiting and equipping and motivating people every single day."
This is not even, close to what the Democrats are saying. There is no call for 100 years of war. He wants the option of leaving our troops in an area from where they can be quickly deployed to meet American interests. Democrat and Republican presidents have left troops in Europe, Japan and Korea. What McCain said, makes sense, and will make the region safer in the end.
