Be aware: Celebration timeshare
Remember that group of insistent folks at Decatur Celebration across from the Post Office? The ones who were essentially demanding you sign up for their offer of a free car and five years of gasoline?
Well, if you were annoyed with them, you weren’t the only one. Some people from other cities have been so irritated with the group - Silverlead Resorts, Inc. - that they’ve filed complaints with the Dallas Better Business Bureau.
According to a report on the Dallas Better Business Bureau’s site:
The BBB processed a total of 240 complaints about this company in the last 36 months, our standard reporting period.
That’s 80 complaints a year, or one every 4 1/2 days. The company is essentially a timeshare solicitor. Be sure to look under “additional file information” on the link above. Among the important pieces of information:
If you have received an award letter from this company, it does not mean that you have won a contest. You will receive a free gift if you attend the sales presentation, but the chances that you will receive a major prize such as a car or cash are very slim.
…
In general, the Bureau recommends responding to sales promotions of this type only if you are interested in what the company has for sale, and not just for the sake of a free gift.
If the timeshare still interests you and you’re contacted as a prize winner, great. But just be aware of what you’re getting into.
Contacting with news about the timeshare Thursday afternoon, Decatur Celebration producer Fred Puglia indicated the group would not be allowed to return next year.
